Fundamental Properties of Spin Echoes

چکیده
Spin echoes have been known since 1950. Although their formal description by use of the Bloch equations is straightforward, it does not lead to an intuitive understanding of their behavior except for the special cases of 180" or 90" pulses, especially when many pulses are applied before the magnetization has returned into thermal equilibrium. The extended-phasegraph algorithm, which takes into account that the total magnetization in spin-echo sequences is a superposition of many isochromats, allows the recognition of all possible echo signals in arbitrary pulse sequences. Its application to multi-echo sequences leads to a number of surprising results. It can be demonstrated that refocusing pulses with flip angles much lower than 180" generate an unexpectedly high signal intensity after a few echo periods. Apart from leading to a simple algorithm for the exact calculation of echo intensities in arbitrary multi-pulse sequences, the phase-graph algorithm leads to a simple understanding of the contrast behavior of different gradient echo sequences and gives a rational means for the design of MR-imaging sequences that are free from spurious echoes.

Accelerated radial diffusion spectrum imaging using a multi-echo stimulated echo diffusion sequence.
PURPOSE Diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) provides us non-invasively and robustly with anatomical details of brain microstructure. To achieve sufficient angular resolution, DSI requires a large number of q-space samples, leading to long acquisition times. This need is mitigated here by combining the beneficial properties of Radial q-space sampling for DSI with a Multi-Echo Stimulated Echo Sequen...
متن کاملMultiplex RARE Dixon: a novel multislice RARE sequence applied to simultaneous slice fat-water Dixon imaging
Introduction Multislice excitation methods have been widely used to increase efficiency in volume coverage. In the simultaneous spin-echo refocusing sequence (SER) [1], two or more slices are excited simultaneously and refocused with a train of 180° pulses which act simultaneously on both slices. However, the SER sequence does not fulfil CPMG conditions, and requires special spoiler gradients t...

Intense radiofrequency power in the form of pulses is applied to an ensemble of spins in a liquid placed in a large static magnetic Geld H&. The frequency of the pulsed r-f power satisGes the condition for nuclear magnetic resonance, and the pulses last for times which are short compared with the time in which the nutating macroscopic magnetic moment of the entire spin ensemble can decay. After...

The main impetus for our research is provided by the growing interest worldwide in ultra thin silicon dioxide on silicon based nano devices. The obvious need for better knowledge in the ultra thin gate silicon dioxides, is motivated both by interests in fundamental research and phenomenology as well as by interests in possible applications, which can be found with better fitting of experimental...
متن کاملTime-reversal of cross-polarization in nuclear magnetic resonance
It is demonstrated that the time evolution of the heteronuclear polarization-transfer process in a dipolar-coupled nuclear spin system can be reversed, leading to the observation of cross-polarization echoes. The cross-polarization echoes are induced by consecutive application of two pulse trains that produce effective Hamiltonians that differ only in sign. Cross-polarization echoes have been r...
